Questions

Why does the character count differ from my editor's?+

Because this counts graphemes, which is what a person means by a character: an emoji is one, and so is an accented letter written as two code points. Editors usually count code units instead.

How is reading time worked out?+

230 words a minute for silent reading and 130 for reading aloud. Both are averages for adult prose; dense technical writing runs slower and a script read at pace runs faster.

Is my text sent anywhere?+

No. Everything is counted in this tab, which is also why the numbers update on every keystroke without a wait.
